SIX Swiss Exchange Upgrades to INET-Based Trading Platform

The NASDAQ OMX Group recently announced the successful upgrade of trading platform, SIX Swiss Exchange to software used by NASDAQ. The new platform is the world’s first to implement NASDAQ OMX's X-stream INET technology.

SIX Swiss Exchange's upgrade of its current SWXess trading platform will result in substantial latency and throughput advantages in all asset classes for its trading members. The NASDAQ OMX's X-stream INET technology has been designed to boost functionality, latency and volume capacity while retaining the enhanced performance that the typical X-stream version delivers across all market types and asset classes.

The upgrade wasn’t the only reason SIX Swiss Exchange was in news, though, as they are also launching a colocation service for the new platform, in collaboration with Equinix (News - Alert). With the platform’s changes, existing and new SIX Swiss Exchange clients will be able to operate their trading systems near the Exchange's matching engine, without affecting the overall performance.

"We have seen the number of participants, the number of securities listed and the number of trading transactions rise strongly in the last two years,” said Christian Katz, CEO of SIX Swiss Exchange. “By upgrading our trading platform and launching our co-location service, we are keeping pace with the expansion of SIX Swiss Exchange. Client focus, combined with state-of-the-art technology, is essential to attracting additional liquidity. Right now, we are setting a new standard for trading, risk management and the future growth of SIX Swiss Exchange."

"SIX Swiss Exchange has always been in the technology forefront and today's technology upgrade truly reinforces their position in the global exchange arena,” said Lars Ottersgård, Senior Vice President NASDAQ OMX Market Technology. “The ultra-low latency enabled by X-stream INET, in combination with functionality and throughput advantages, puts SIX Swiss Exchange in a prime position to attract new volumes and members to its markets."
