AOptix Announces Closing of $42 Million Series E Round of Funding

AOptix recently announced the closing of a $42 million Series E round of funding, which brings the total investment in the company to $123 million. The company specializes in providing identity verification and wireless communications solutions.

In addition to the company’s existing investors, which include Clearstone Venture Partners, DAG Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Northgate Capital, and W Capital Partners, the funding round also saw participation from True Ventures, the latest investor in the company. The generated funds will be used to enhance and drive product development, as well as the sales and marketing sectors to support the company's new line of product offerings.

In a release, Kevin Compton, partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, said, “As an investment strategy, I look for companies that are applying technology to positively impact people’s lives on a global scale. AOptix is doing just that – solving problems no one else can through a rare combination of imagination, technology expertise and an experienced management team that knows how to execute.”

Founders of the company originally focused on the development of adaptive optics technologies designed to enable space explorations by astronomers, thus driving greater scientific discoveries. AOptix used the very same technology solutions in its collaborative work with DARPA and the U.S. military over the development of advanced mobile wireless networks capable of supporting high speed air-to-ground and air-to-air communications.

AOptix has since then been focusing on further enhancing and improving its core technologies by working on solutions that allow people to securely connect across an extensive range of commercial applications. The company's solutions portfolio include rapid, accurate, and automated identity verification based on iris recognition in addition to other biometric verification techniques which can be particularly critical to strengthening aviation security and also in immigration control.
