Home Improvement Retailer B&Q Adopts SAP Solution for Stock Management

It used to be the case that keeping a handle on a store’s inventory meant counting each item by hand to make sure the stock matched up with sales figures. In 2012, there are far more efficient ways to manage stock and deal with replenishment.

British do-it-yourself and home improvement chain B&Q has adopted a solution from SAP (News - Alert) that aims to resolve that problem. The Forecasting and Replenishment application has been implemented within B&Q as part of the Project CLOVER business transformation program, and is reputedly aiding the retailer in its attempts to become a leader in supply chain standards.

B&Q expects to see savings across stock reduction, a boost in profits through better product availability, and cost savings through improved forecasting and planning – all thanks to SAP’s solution.

As the retailer shifts its manual process into automated systems, it expects to see an increased level of efficiency in its supply chain. Stock quantity and phasing of products will be matched to the needs and sales patterns of each store, while the Forecasting and Replenishment application will allows for collaboration and planning through the entire supply chain.

"Stock availability is at the heart of everything B&Q does, so we need to have the most efficient processes in place to remain at the top of our game and continue to delight our customers every day," said Suren Sornalingam, project executive, B&Q. "Project CLOVER was so much more than a technical implementation—it was a fundamental change in our business journey. We had to ensure everything was planned appropriately and effectively rolled out to our workforce of 32,000."

SAG expanded the Forecasting and Replenishment solution in January, making a renewed investment in the solution. Last month, the company established a global managing board to lead the company forward throughout the world.
