OPNET Announces New Performance Management and User Analytics Capabilities

OPNET Technologies, Inc., a provider of solutions for application and network performance management, unveiled its new offering for business transaction management (BTM).

As stated, this new offering is based on a combination of capabilities in several of the solutions within its APM (News - Alert) Xpert suite.

"With this new offering, OPNET is leveraging its unique position as a leader in several areas: end user experience monitoring; deep component monitoring and transaction tracing within the back-end infrastructure; and high-volume forensic data collection," Alain Cohen (News - Alert), president and chief technology officer at OPNET said in a statement.

Alain said that this new offering constitutes a break-through in the performance management space, as the company is synthesizing all relevant data for a transaction, spanning all levels of granularity, across both server and network assets.

“While traditional Business Transaction Management combines end user experience monitoring with transaction following, OPNET is taking this approach to the next step by joining two key capabilities: user analytics that identify when performance issues are impacting business; and deep transaction tracing down to the code level for the most precise possible root cause analysis," Cohen added.

BTM Xpert includes OPNET's AppResponse Xpert appliance to intercept all business transactions, analyze their performance, and perform user analytics. This is a funnel analysis showing how a population of users progresses through the multiple steps of a business transaction. BTM Xpert also relies on OPNET's AppInternals Xpert solution to follow transactions through a back-end infrastructure consisting of multiple tiers, including application and database servers.

BTM Xpert provides customers with the ability to determine the exact part of the infrastructure responsible for performance degradation by following a transaction through each tier and providing a consolidated view of the data across all tiers together with end user experience.

"OPNET is excited to be able to provide IT Analysts and Performance Engineers with entirely new views of how transactions unfold in a complex infrastructure," added Cohen.

BTM Xpert now comes as a solution bundle consisting of several solutions in the OPNET APM Xpert suite, including AppResponse Xpert and AppInternals Xpert. Customers may obtain the capabilities of BTM Xpert by purchasing the bundle, or its constituent solutions.

Company said that its new user analytics capabilities are available now with the AppResponse Xpert solution. Meanwhile has already started field trials for BTM Xpert, and the general availability is expected in the second quarter of 2011.

OPNET recently also announced a new service - Cloud Readiness Performance Assessment for clients and partners to ensure successful migration of applications to cloud computing environments. This offering is said to control the risks associated with such a migration, thereby accelerating the move to cloud computing and ensuring end-to-end application performance.
