SGI Debuts SGI Performance Suite and SGI Management Suite

Helping its customers to get the most of its product line, SGI launched SGI Performance Suite and SGI Management Suite.

SGI Performance Suite is designed to accelerate the performance of applications on SGI systems utilizing Intel or AMD (News - Alert) x86-64 processors, including SGI Altix UV servers, SGI Altix ICE clusters, CloudRack and Rackable servers, and the Octane III personal supercomputer.

Offering a Power Option for green computing, SGI Management Suite includes multiple editions of SGI Management Center, its comprehensive control and central management software. With the industry's most scalable and high-performance MPI (Message Passing Interface) software and run-time tools, SGI Performance Suite extends the performance of technical computing, the company stated.

“SGI Performance Suite gives technical application users and developers the critical tools to greatly boost the performance and scalability of their core applications, and makes these tools more broadly available,” said Christian Tanasescu, vice president of software engineering at SGI, in a press release. “SGI Management Suite delivers the ease of use and comprehensive control needed by system administrators, and its Power Option allows customers to optimize and control their power usage pattern.”

SGI Management Suite provides a single point of management for individual servers to racks to entire SGI systems with two editions of SGI Management Center. Administrators and managers can now get a graphical user interface and a single view of system health, server status, performance metrics and software images with the help of SGI Management Center—Standard Edition. The premium edition provides features such as high speed provisioning, image management with version control, fault analysis, user management and others.

In March 2010, the company announced the availability of Altix UV 10, a new high performance quad-socket server that enhances the range of data-intensive applications addressed by the Altix UV product family. The Altix UV family consists of three models that enable users to optimally size their systems, achieving the correct balance of compute, memory and storage capability. Altix UV 10 is a quad-socket rackmount server.
