Gemalto, a world leader in digital security, has acquired SensorLogic (News - Alert), provider of a a cloud-based, machine-to-machine (M2M) service delivery platform. Both the companies have not disclosed the financial aspects of the acquisition.
SensorLogic’s M2M platform allows customers to build, deploy and manage M2M solutions in a broad range of applications such as asset tracking, telematics and equipment monitoring and servicing. The SensorLogic “platform as a service” approach allows enterprises, mobile network operators, system integrators and service providers to bring services to market at a fraction of the cost of a traditional in-house development, the company stated in a press release.
Commenting on the transaction, Oliver Piou, Gemalto chief executive officer, noted, “With M2M, we continue to replicate our successful business model. Starting from advanced software embedded in a device, we add remote management and then application support to provide superior performance and differentiation to our customers.”
Gemalto has created a globally unique offering for M2M by adding a well recognized application development platform to the Cinterion (News - Alert) market leading range of M2M modules, MIM cards and MIM management capabilities, and Over-The-Air device management and security solutions. Clearly adding value to the clients, the company is taking complexity out of M2M deployments with SensorLogic, according to company officials.
In September 2008, the company announced that its entire range of MagIC3 Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminals received certification by an independent certified testing laboratory in accordance with MasterCard (News - Alert) International Payment Terminal Security program. This security evaluation applies to the TCP/IP protocol suite. The MagIC product range has been particularly well received in emerging markets since its commercial launch in November 2006. Gemalto (News - Alert) has taken an orientation with the MCI PTS certification of X1000 GPRS.
