Curtiss-Wright Acquires Irish Data Acquisition Systems Company ACRA

The Motion Control segment of Curtiss-Wright (News - Alert) Corporation,  Curtiss-Wright Controls, Inc., has acquired ACRA Control, Limited (ACRA) in an approximately $61 million cash deal.

Charlotte, NC based Curtiss-Wright Controls is a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced technologies for niche actuation and drive applications, integrated sensors and electronic subsystems internationally for the aerospace and defense markets.

Dublin, Ireland- based ACRA is a leading designer and manufacturer of data acquisition systems and networks, data recorders, and telemetry ground stations. The company caters to the companies in the commercial aerospace and defense markets. With the acquisition, Curtiss-Wright will be able to expand its global footprint in high-demand markets.

Post acquisition, ACRA will operate within the Integrated Sensing division of Curtiss-Wright Controls, sources at Curtiss-Wright revealed in a press release.

The acquisition of ACRA will enable Curtiss-Wright Control to combine ACRA’s customizable modular technologies, engineering expertise and advanced product technologies with Curtiss-Wright Controls’ current recording and avionics solutions. As a result, Curtiss-Wright’s Aerospace and Defense customers will get a fully integrated system, featuring enhanced data acquisition capabilities, airborne Ethernet data transmission and synchronization, and wireless download of data to ground stations.

Additionally, ACRA’s advanced Ethernet switch technology will enhance the value of Curtiss-Wright Controls’ system-level approach to C4ISR solutions, officials explained.

Lastly, Curtiss-Wright Control is also going to include ACRA’s highly skilled hardware and software engineering force, comprising over 60 personnel. This is likely to expand Curtiss-Wright Controls’ development capability, adding specialized skills in data acquisition, embedded recording, networking, and analysis software.

“This acquisition launches Curtiss-Wright Controls into a significant global market, leveraging our pedigree as a leading supplier of mission critical electronics products and our financial resources. The addition of ACRA’s airborne data acquisition system technology to our electronics and avionics product offerings will provide an immediate leadership position in the dynamic worldwide aviation test and instrumentation market,” Co-Chief Operating Officer of Curtiss-Wright Corporation David Adams said in a statement.

Last week Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems (CWCES) announced the newest addition to its industry-leading Hybricon family of high performance OpenVPX backplanes. The new 024-900-06-CEN1-01 is to speed up and simplify the integration of high performance open standards based rugged deployed subsystems based on the popular VPX and OpenVPX open standards.
