CA Technologies Announces Definitive Agreement to Acquire Watchmouse

CA (News - Alert) Technologies has announced a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Watchmouse, an innovator in software as a service (SaaS)-based monitoring for cloud, mobile and traditional Web applications.

David Dobson, executive vice president at CA Technologies (News - Alert), noted that as companies extend more applications to their customers through the Web and smartphones, the performance of those applications is having a greater impact on revenue, customer loyalty and brand value.

“By adding WatchMouse to our portfolio of solutions for managing and monitoring IT, we are enabling these companies to better safeguard the performance of these customer-facing applications -- so they can better safeguard the performance of their business,” Dobson said.

Solutions from WatchMouse use a globally-distributed infrastructure of over 60 monitoring stations in more than 40 countries. And, from these locations, WatchMouse replicates real-user transactions, providing rich, up-to-the-minute insight into application performance and availability.

To the customers of both CA Technologies Service Assurance and Nimsoft, WatchMouse technology will extend the ability to proactively manage the end-user experience around the world; quickly identify and resolve application performance issues; and keep cloud vendors accountable for their service level agreements (SLAs).

Company officials said that the solutions are delivered as a SaaS (News - Alert) model, and these high-value capabilities are provided in an easy-to-use format that eliminates the need to install or manage software.

WatchMouse is expects to bolster CA Technologies CA Application Performance Management (APM (News - Alert)) solution. Company officials said that this will give large enterprise customers comprehensive and flexible options to manage their applications within a single solution set.

Additionally, WatchMouse will enable customers to quickly and easily monitor response times for different types of business services -- from the cloud to the data center. Company officials believe that this will augment Nimsoft (News - Alert) IT Management-as-a-Service strategy.

The WatchMouse solution will be sold as an add-on capability to the full-featured CA APM solution.

The companies did not disclose the terms and financial details of the acquisition agreement.

Earlier in June, CA Technologies and Dimension Data Asia Pacific announced a collaboration to drive enterprise cloud adoption throughout Asia Pacific.
