Regulatory Compliance and Data Loss Prevention: Video

Regulatory compliance is an important issue for any company operating online. At the same time, data loss can be a significant issue, resulting in lost revenue. The good news is that Somansa is dedicated to providing solutions to overcome these challenges.

To learn how, TMCnet’s Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) recently met with Donald Lee, director of New Business Development at Somansa at Interop. Their conversation was captured in this video.Somansa is a data loss prevention and regulatory compliance company.

Their focus is on monitoring and managing protocols and messaging to protect company data. Somansa solutions cover e-mail, personal web-based mail, IM, social networking, etc. The company’s offering started as a software-based product, and then many smaller companies wanted the solution, but didn’t have the resources to manage the product. As a result, Somansa released an appliance-based plug-n-play solution for SMBs.

The response from customers has been good. As for benefits for small business, Lee noted that the solution is a simple and easy to use system that connects to the network and starts running by itself. It enables SMBs to adhere to industry regulations such as SEC (News - Alert), HIPPA, Sarbanes Oxley, etc. Courts today are requesting electronic evidence; this data can be easily retrieved through e-discovery.“We have an all-in-one type of function in which you can monitor and record specific data,” said Lee.

This is important in areas where regulatory compliance demands specific documentation presented for auditing purposes. As for the company’s footprint, Samansa has a global presence, mostly focusing on North and Latin America and Asia. The company is based in California, but also has global offices. When asked how the market is affecting the business, Lee noted, “We are seeing that even though the economy is not in good condition, companies still need to follow regulatory compliances as a rule.

So, they are almost mandated to have a product like ours.”What’s next for this company? Mostly educating consumers on the importance of protecting their data and meeting regulatory compliances, said Lee. The company also expects to focus on a strategy of expanding globally and throughout Europe. To learn more, check out the video in full below:
