Actuate Corporation announced that the company and its value added offerings for BIRT have been validated as a leader in the “The Forrester (News - Alert) Wave: Open Source Business Intelligence or BI, Q3 2010” report.

The Forrester Wave report was created as a global vendor assessment tool and it rated Actuate (News - Alert) based on the company’s pure play BI application and highly scalable, function-rich reporting.

The methodology followed included rolling up the scores to high level aggregates for providing customizable weights to each evaluation criteria and drawing a clear distinction between community and commercial editions.

Forrester sources added that it arrived at a method to make as close a comparison as possible between the Open Source (News - Alert) BI offerings. Forrester used 157 criteria to evaluate the vendors and found that “Actuate BIRT led the pack because of richness of reporting functionality.”

According to the Forrester Wave report, Actuate BIRT reports can be used for mass report distribution and for highly complex BI applications like interactive online customer statements. In the most recent addition, Actuate also added BIRT data objects that are useful in disk- or memory-based OLAP-style analysis.

Actuate sources added that it is focusing on mobile BI with BIRT iPhone (News - Alert) application and BIRT Mobile virtual appliance or the delivery of BIRT content to most popular mobile devices. As BIRT is part of the Eclipse project, Actuate BIRT is also highly attractive to developers who use Eclipse integrated development environment or IDE.
