Accenture Scores Hefty Contracts with U.S. Navy

Accenture (News - Alert), the global consulting, technology services, and outsourcing giant, has secured several landmark contracts from the United States Navy to evaluate and audit its IT and financial transaction process systems. The contracts will keep Accenture working with the U.S. Navy for at least three years.

According to a statement, the contracts mandate Accenture to:

  • Work with six commands and the United States Marine Corps to provide comprehensive audit readiness services. Work will include review of business processes, internal controls and related systems to support improved business operations at Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Sea Systems Command, the Navy's Assistant for Administration, Field Support Activity, Office of Naval Research, Naval Research Laboratory and the Marine Corps.
  • To evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of IT general computer controls and business process automated controls for the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning system. Accenture's work will include verifying processes, testing controls and supporting plant, property and equipment validation, all of which are key elements of the Navy's Office of Financial Operations' plan to achieve and sustain audit readiness.

Both contracts are for a three-year period, worth $25.5 million and $5.37 million respectively. According to reports, “Both contracts support the Navy's Financial Improvement Program (FIP). The program's objectives are to improve the accuracy, timeliness and reliability of financial information to increase confidence in the Navy's financial management capabilities.”

Accenture has enjoyed a close relationship with the U.S. government, managing projects for a myriad of federal agencies and organizations. In fact, the company’s federal business serves every cabinet-level department and 20 of the largest federal organizations, spanning across clients in civilian, defense, intelligence and public safety agencies. Some of these projects have included managing security and biometric scanning systems for the Department of Homeland Security, consulting in the areas of public safety for the Departments of Justice, State, and Interior, and an array of projects centering on border security and identity management.
