Cathay United Bank, a premier commercial bank in Taiwan, recently announced the introduction of a mobile payments and transit trial project in Taipei, focused on increasing mobile banking among its customers.
During the project, customers of the bank will make payments at various local stores with their mobile phones. Furthermore, the NFC-capable microSD cards issued to the customers will enable them to access the Taipei public transit system with ease.
G&D Secure Flash Solutions, a reputable provider of innovative secure flash memory products for the mobile community, were the suppliers of the NFC-capable microSD cards.
“We believe there is considerable market potential for the microSD form factor in mobile NFC transaction solutions,” said Marcus Rosin, managing director of G&D Secure Flash Solutions. “We are proud that Cathay United Bank chose our Mobile Security Card SWP for their trial.”
Participants in the trial project were provided with NFC-capable HTC (News - Alert) Incredible E NFC smartphones and were issued G&D’s Mobile Security Card SWP microSD cards by the bank. The Mobile Security Card SWP microSD cards are the first cards used in Taiwan which have been designed to address MasterCard (News - Alert) PayPass standards.
Using the card, participants can make secure payments at various popular local convenience and department stores by tapping their HTC phone at a merchant terminal.
Furthermore, EasyCard Corporation has cleared the Mobile Security Card SWP to be used as a contactless “EasyCard,” a contactless transit card used by commuters for travelling via the Taipei Metro (MRT) and on buses.
Users can top up the card’s balance by using the “auto” top-up feature based on MasterCard’s credit card functionality, all without the need for any kind of cash transaction.
Automatic deductions of pre-charged fares are conducted on the card when the HTC NFC phone with Mobile Security Card SWP is tapped over the EasyCard sensor on faregates, or on buses and in merchant stores.
