Oberthur Technologies, a provider of secure technologies and smartcard-based solutions, has developed its new dual interface card product, MasterCard’s M/Chip Advance on the Cosmo Fly v4 platform. The main target markets of the company include security and identification solutions and services based on smartcards; manufacturing of traditional and electronic secure identity documents; a security printer specialized in the production of banknotes, checks and numerous security documents; and design and manufacturing of intelligent cash protection solutions for Cash In Transit and ATMs.
MasterCard Worldwide is a global payments company that serves as a franchisor, processor and advisor to the payments industry and enables an economic link among financial institutions, governments, businesses, merchants and cardholders worldwide.
Developed according to the latest version of the JavaCard standard, Cosmo Fly v4 M/Chip Advance is a dedicated platform that enables both contact and PayPass contactless payments; offering enhanced payment solutions to the customers of MasterCard and Oberthur Technologies.
“The integration of M/Chip and PayPass on the same platform, using the M/Chip Advance payment card application, will make the roll-out of dual interface cards faster and easier for issuers worldwide,” commented Cédric Collomb, general manager of cards and services for Card Systems Division at Oberthur Technologies. “Oberthur Technologies is dedicated to creating solutions that generate additional value and convenience for its customers which include issuers, transport operators and loyalty providers.”
M/Chip Advance provides various payment-related enhancements and Integrated Data Storage capabilities to the enterprises in a number of sectors such as transit, loyalty, campus and government benefits, for fulfilling the demand for new solutions.
“Integrated Data Storage provides the capability to enrich payment transactions by incorporating cardholder-and third-party data at the point-of-interaction,” said Dave Meadon, group head of Chip Solutions and Engineering at MasterCard Worldwide. “This will facilitate new partnerships in the payments industry and enable new transaction scenarios to emerge. M/Chip Advance will drive greater utility from payment cards enabling them to achieve ‘top of wallet’ status, a key consideration for all stakeholders in the payments business.”
Earlier this month, PosteMobile, a mobile virtual network operator based in Italy announced that it will implement its strong authentication offer in collaboration with Oberthur Technologies. With the new announcement, online services like home banking will be accessible to PosteMobile with Oberthur Technologies’ authentic solution.
