Comptel recently announced that along with Procera, it has successfully completed the interoperability testing for the jointly developed real-time policy control and charging solution. The joint solution has been developed to include Comptel Policy Control and Procera's PacketLogic Subscriber Manager and PacketLogic Real-Time Enforcement (PRE), which allows communications service providers (CSP (News - Alert)) to provide, manage and monetize advanced data services and benefit from enhanced network usage, and overall customer experience.

In a statement, Antti Koskela, CTO, Comptel, said that, "This collaboration has enhanced Comptel's and Procera's ability to support CSPs challenged by the global data explosion. The integrated, real-time policy control and charging solution offers the flexibility and data granularity operators require to manage service usage easily and optimise their networks efficiently. Not only that, it leaves CSPs well-positioned to enhance the customer experience and capitalise on service monetisation and other business opportunities."

With Comptel Policy Control CSPs will be able to ensure that their technology investments deliver profitable new business avenues. They will be able to integrate advanced charging rules for multi-vendor 3G, LTE (News - Alert), and WiMAX, fixed and cable networks with real-time application of network and business policy.

Additionally, the successful completion of the interoperability test established how policy and charging rules managed by Comptel Policy Control can be used in Procera's PRE product taking into account the real-time inspection of network traffic.

The fully integrated, 3GPP-compliant solution offers benefits which include – improved time-to-market with Comptel Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) and Procera Policy and Charging Enforcement Function (PCEF) that are enhanced with DPI functionalities; enhanced level of flexibility in industry-standard interfaces for policy control via Gx; and a scalable solution featuring robust tools that offer more than simply control and monetisation of data servers.
