Verizon Wireless Receives Workplace Excellence Award

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence has honored Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless for the ninth consecutive year for the various employee benefits provided by the company. These benefits include on-site mammograms, Pilates for Pregnancy classes and tuition reimbursement.

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence is a non-profit group that supports the pursuit of workplace excellence with training and education, awards of recognition and community awareness.

A comprehensive evaluation process by an independent review panel of professors, Ph. D. students of business, and industrial and organizational psychology and human resources professionals will select winning employers, stated the Alliance. Employing one or more fitness coaches who promote employee health and wellness, Verizon Wireless' (News - Alert) Laurel, MD regional headquarters, its Hanover facility, and many of the company's nationwide workplaces have fitness centers.

Verizon Wireless Regional President Mike Maiorana added in a company press release, "Our Verizon Wireless employees are the best in the business, and they deserve a workplace that reflects their deep commitment to our company and our customers.  We're honored, once again, to receive double recognition from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence.”

Along with a range of exercise classes, the centers offer personal training, nutrition and seminars.  Taking advantage of on-site lactation rooms after their babies are born, moms-to-be can participate in online physician seminars throughout their pregnancies. Verizon Wireless has received many prestigious awards, including being named to Baltimore Magazine's Best Places to Work list; DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies for Diversity List; Best Corporate Citizen from Corporate Responsibility Magazine, the company stated in a press release.

In August 2010, the company announced a new, “Verizon Wireless Global Travel Program,” that allows its customers to stay connected while they travel. The offering lends customers global-capable feature phones, smartphones or data cards for their laptops for the duration of their travel without the worry over daily rental fees or security deposits. Also, customers can keep their regular phone numbers and transfer their contact lists using a “Backup Assistant.”
