Velaris Checks Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for BI

Velaris, a provider of Business Intelligence or “BI” consulting services for commercial, government, and higher education clients, provided a “Health Check” assessment to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or “RPI”, a technological university operating an undergraduate and graduate residential campus in Troy.

The Health Check assessment and report is a perfect starting point for organizations looking to evaluate their existing business intelligence strategy, according to Velaris.

Organizations are inclined to take the ‘If it’s not broke, don’t fix it’ approach with regard to their BI systems, according to Doug Scheidig, senior systems engineer at Velaris. Those same systems may not be running properly unbeknownst to the staff.

Doug said, “This situation is compounded in most organizations, but especially in higher education, when critical knowledge of the BI system is lost or becomes rare due to organizational restructuring or staff turnover.”

Velaris’ Health Check report helps educate an organization by presenting data about the system’s current state and the BI product’s roadmap for the future, according to Doug.

Moreover, the Health Check report provides a health score based on various areas such as system resources, reporting functionality, and potential points of failure. The results allow Velaris to make recommendations based on the best practices that are tailored to each organization’s deployment scenario.

Velaris’ Health Check assessments are conducted over a one-to-two day span either onsite or remotely via collaboration tools and starts at $1000, the company said. Within a span of five business days, the Health Check report is delivered to the client.

A conference call is conducted with the client after the customer had a review of the Health Check report. This call helps the customer discuss the findings of the Health Check and get the proper answers of the queries the customer have.

The Health Check fee is refundable for the customers who also opt for services such as migration or ongoing support, within 60 days of the Health Check, the company said.

Additionally, Velaris delivers a comprehensive suite of capabilities that help clients in maintaining and administering their system effectively, create more sophisticated reports, and provide end-user training.
