Tyler's Excellence Awards recognize organizations that demonstrate excellence in deploying Tyler software in novel and impactful ways that utilize best practices. Award submissions were evaluated by a panel of Tyler leadership and entries were judged on business value, maturity, innovation and relevance to other public sector organizations. Additional criteria met by award winners include:

  • Creating a unique process that utilizes a Tyler application
  • Realizing significant savings after implementing a Tyler product
  • Increasing staff productivity by implementing a Tyler product
  • Empowering employees, citizens or vendors

Tyler's Eden 2015 Excellence Award winner is the city of Pittsburg, California. Pittsburg collaborated with Eden development to offer an online utility payment option for customers to increase customer convenience and provide better service. The city was able to place a payment kiosk in Pittsburg Book Depot that resulted in increased payments during a city furlough. Pittsburg has a population of 66,700 and is located in eastern Contra Costa County.

Tyler's Munis 2015 Excellence Award winners are Floyd County, Georgia; the District School Board of Pasco County, Florida; and Boulder City, Nevada.

Floyd County, a Munis user since 1999, turned to Tyler Notify™ for help with the water department's communication efforts. Tyler Notify integrates with Munis, and the county used the communication platform with its utility billing module to connect with customers. After implementation, monthly disconnections due to nonpayment decreased 45 percent. Floyd County has a population of 95,800 and its county seat is Rome.

The District School Board of Pasco County implemented a new accounts payable process using Munis and Tyler Content Manager™ affecting more than 800 purchasing cards and 4,000 transactions per month. The district set up a streamlined process that allowed each department to import and attach original receipts to their accounts payable request, and to route the reports through the correct approval process and storage. The documents are available online at any time and the district has realized a savings from a reduction in paper costs. The District School Board of Pasco County has 9,500 employees and a student population of 71,000.

Boulder City's parks and recreation department implemented Tyler Parks & Rec™ to eliminate manual, paper-based processes and move scheduling online. Tyler Parks & Rec is both an administrative portal to manage business details and an external Web portal to improve public access to recreation programs. Boulder City is approximately 26 miles southeast of Las Vegas and has a population of 15,200.

The national Tyler SIS 2015 Excellence Award winner is Virginia's Prince George County Public Schools, a Tyler client since 2009. The district selected Tyler SIS and Tyler Pulse (News - Alert)™ to integrate with its other Tyler school solutions, and piloted the Tyler Special Ed™ solution. With Tyler Special Ed, the district saw an immediate benefit from the complete integration of student data, which increased the efficiency of its Individualized Education Plan (IEP) program. Prince George County Public Schools has 900 employees and 6,250 students across nine schools.

Indiana's Metropolitan School District (MSD) of Lawrence Township is the Versatrans 2015 Excellence Award winner. MSD of Lawrence Township, a Tyler client since 2006, was trying to find a way to use resources more effectively and balance the transportation department budget. The district used Versatrans to run reports and analyze data, resulting in a reduction of approximately 10 percent of bus routes without a loss in service because of improved route timeliness. MSD of Lawrence Township is located in Indianapolis and has a student enrollment of 15,375.

Tyler Excellence Award winners were honored May 4 at the Connect 2015 user conference in Atlanta, where they were presented with the award and given the opportunity to share their best practices and lessons learned with their public sector peers.

"Tyler's Public Sector Excellence Awards program is our chance to publicly recognize clients who embrace our technology to solve unique problems at their district or municipality," said Chris Hepburn, senior vice president of Tyler's ERP & School Division. "Feedback from our most innovative clients further enhances the experience for all users of Tyler product suites, and we're proud to offer a forum like Tyler's Connect user conference for clients to share real-world successes with their peers. Congratulations to all the winners of Tyler's Excellence Awards."
