Bernard F. Godley Joins Korn Ferry


Korn Ferry (NYSE:KFY), the preeminent authority on leadership and talent, today announced that Bernard F. Godley, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS will join the firm in Houston as a Senior Client Partner in the Academic Medicine Practice.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Godley served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UTMB. He initially joined UTMB in 1996 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and left in 2001 to pursue private practice while building the Harrington Laboratory for Molecular Ophthalmology at the Retina Foundation of the Southwest in Dallas. He returned to UTMB in 2005 as Professor and Chair, an in 2006 was appointed as the holder of Robertson-Poth Distinguished Chair in Ophthalmology. Dr. Godley also was a Professor of Ophthalmology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and established its retina service.



Dr. Godley is credited with the rapid turn-around of the Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (OVS) Department at UTMB - significantly improving patient satisfaction, operational efficiency, and growth in faculty and services.

He built strategic external partnerships with MD Anderson and Houston Methodist Hospital for residency training, and within the department established a Leadership Institute. During his tenure, the department pioneered tele-ophthalmology services within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; and launched Texas' first integrated ophthalmology residency program with Houston Methodist Hospital. The residency program is known for its combined PhD program with an emphasis on leadership development.


Dr. Godley earned a bachelor's degree in biology magna cum laude at Brown University and completed the combined MD and PhD program at Harvard Medical School and MIT (News - Alert). After completing a medical internship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, he did an ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa, followed by retina fellowship at Moorfield's Eye Hospital and the University of London, and the Retina Institute of Maryland. Dr. Godley completed the requirements for an MBA at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management where he focused on leadership and finance. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons.
