TowerSec ECUSHIELD Cyber Security Software Stops Hacking As Vehicles Become Internet of Things (IoT)

GENEVA, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TowerSec ECUSHIELD real-time embedded software is the solution to the cyber security threats created as vehicles rapidly become part of the Internet of Things.

ECUSHIELD stops vehicle cyber threats now and in the future. The company will demonstrate the technology at the Geneva International Motor Show during press days March 3-15 as part of the Segula Technologies presentation at Booth No. 5040.

Protecting vehicles from cyber threats is a major issue. Hacker attacks compromise automotive safety and security and put lives and personal data at risk. In the US, a just-released report by Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts) addresses the need for automotive cyber security as modern technologies open the door to hackers.

"We invested years of research and engineering developing our products," said Saar Dickman, TowerSec CEO. "ECUSHIELD is the only tested and proven software security solution available for immediate deployment. It can be integrated into existing and future vehicles with no redesign. It is available for less than $10 a vehicle."

Once integrated into a CAN-BUS accessible ECU or telematics control unit, ECUSHIELD provides continuous monitoring while identifying new threats to the vehicle. It prevents malicious communication from reaching mission critical systems inside the vehicle that could put lives and personal data at risk.

With ECUSHIELD no redesign is needed. It is flexible and can be easily integrated into new and used vehicles, including fleets. It turns any ECU into an Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDS/IPS) system and any gateway ECU into a smart firewall.

"To meet the needs of security of embedded electronics Segula Technologies works with TowerSec, which brings its software security solution to mitigate the risks of car hacking in real time," said Frnck Vigot, automotive director at Segula Technologies. "Our commitment is to meet the current and future challenges of connected vehicles and provide solutions for our customers. TowerSec provides the solution for automotive cyber security needed for our advanced technologies such as E-Sense."

Segula Technologies unveiled E-Sense at the Paris Motor Show last October. In its second version at Geneva, the technology allows the driver to remotely open the garage door, switch on lights, monitor home heat and air conditioning systems, connect to medical monitoring devices and more … all from the vehicle. It eliminated the need for automakers to design custom console screens and human machine interface. Instead, a tablet or smartphone becomes the vehicle's control center.

"Our ECUSHIELD embedded software is a perfect complement to Segula's connected technology," Dickman said. "It seamlessly protects vehicles from cyber threats cloud to vehicle as vehicles become an integral part of the Internet of Things (IoT)."

TowerSec's work and innovation is recognized by the auto industry in Europe and US. TowerSec was named the Hottest Startup in 2015 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) for its work on automotive cyber security.

"This award further establishes TowerSec as a leading global solution provider preventing threats modern vehicles face today or will face in the future," said Dickman.
