Freshfields Further Expands U.S. Practice with Addition of Executive Compensation and Employee Benefits Partner
Leading international law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has
appointed executive compensation and employee benefits lawyer, Howard
Klein, as a partner in its New York office. Howard, who has spent his
entire legal career in New York, will lead on all U.S. transactional
issues related to compensation and benefits and advise boards on
governance, remuneration and disclosure issues. His appointment will be
effective as of February 2, 2015.
Howard joins the firm's leading multinational employment, pensions and
benefits (EPB) practice group and will work closely with the corporate
and finance teams in the U.S. serving U.S.-based and international
clients.
Caroline Stroud, Freshfields' global practice group leader for EPB,
said: "Executive compensation and employee benefits are important
factors in most complex transactions in the U.S. and globally. Howard's
extensive expertise in both advisory and transactional benefits work
will be a key element to further strengthen our world-class
transactional capability."
Adam Siegel, U.S. regional managing partner, commented: "Adding a
first-rat executive compensation and employee benefits practitioner to
our U.S. team is another important milestone in further building out our
ability to assist both international and domestic clients with their
most significant opportunities and challenges. Thanks to Howard, we are
now well-positioned to cover regular reporting, governance, compensation
and other related boardroom matters as an integral part of our
compelling cross-border transactional practice."
Commenting on his hire, Howard said: "I am very excited by the
opportunity to grow and lead a practice with Freshfields, on a truly
international platform, and with such fantastic people. I look forward
to working closely with both the New York transactional lawyers and with
my EPB partners around the world to show clients why Freshfields is a
top choice in the U.S. market for complex, multi-jurisdictional
transactions."
Howard joins Freshfields from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he has been a
partner since 2008, and has been recognized for employee benefits and
executive compensation by Legal 500 U.S. and Super Lawyers magazine
since 2012.
Howard received his law degree from Fordham University in 2001, and was
admitted to the New Jersey bar in 2001 and New York bar in 2002.
Howard is the latest addition to Freshfields' U.S. partnership and
follows the partner appointments of Mitchell Presser, Jim Douglas, Peter
Lyons, Valerie Ford Jacob, Paul Tropp and Michael Levitt in New York and
U.S. capital markets partner Ash Qureshi in London last year.
