IEEE Smart Cities Initiative Launches News Bulletin Featuring 2014 Accomplishments and 2015 Plans


IEEE (News - Alert), the world's largest professional organization advancing technology for humanity, today announced the launch of the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative News Bulletin, rounding out a successful first year, including selecting municipalities Wuxi, China and Trento, Italy from hundreds of candidates to become an IEEE Core Smart City, joining Guadalajara, Mexico, the initial city participant.

The IEEE Smart Cities News Bulletin will regularly feature updates from practitioners around the world sharing their knowledge and the best technology practices being used to confront urban challenges such as traffic congestion and poor air quality.

The IEEE Smart Cities Initiative seeks to apply technology to improve cities and the quality of life for urban residents. "By creating a network of participating cities, and establishing platforms such as the IEEE Smart Cities web portal and news bulletin to foster ideas exchange, city planners and key stakeholders can learn from each other and get a head start on their urbanization projects," said Gilles Betis, chair of the IEEE Smart Cities Initiative.
