In this role, Chipman will lead the firm's international and public policy operations. He will also remain active with major client relationships and in numerous professional, business and civic organizations.

"Stephen has been an integral contributor to the growth and success of Grant Thornton during his more than 30 years with the organization," said McGuire, Grant Thornton's CEO-elect. "He is an essential steward of our firm's global strategy and brings to this role deep insights and tremendous leadership, which will enable us to better serve our clients and position Grant Thornton for long-term success."

Chipman was named CEO in January 2010 and significant enhancements were made during his five-year tenure - returning the firm to a trajectory of growth and increasing the firm's revenue by 22 percent during the last three fiscal years. The firm embraced initiatives to better serve its clients through the establishment of a shared services center in India and the launch of the China, India and Japan business groups. The firm extended the breadth and depth of its services through a number of strategic acquisitions, including its acquisition of MarketSphere's Oracle (News - Alert) Solutions business unit, continuing to accelerate the double-digit growth of its Advisory Services. Chipman played a prominent ole in the development of a global strategy and brand for the Grant Thornton worldwide organization and transformed the firm's marketing organization, increasing brand exposure through traditional and social media channels.

Chipman has held numerous leadership positions throughout Europe, North America and Asia, developing a unique combination of international and U.S. business experience. Prior to becoming U.S. CEO, he served two years as CEO of Grant Thornton China Management Corporation, where he was responsible for leading the development and growth of services for Grant Thornton in China. In the United States, he has served as Central region managing partner, Dallas office managing partner and national managing partner of Global Services. He was the inaugural worldwide director of the Grant Thornton International Business Centers. As a member of the U.S. firm's Senior Leadership Team for 12 years, Chipman chaired a number of strategic initiatives, including the Global and China initiatives. In addition, he represented the U.S. member firm of Grant Thornton LLP on the International Policy Board of Grant Thornton International and has served on the Grant Thornton International Board of Governors since 2007.

Chipman is a member of the Center for Audit Quality Governing Board, whose mission is to improve audit quality for public companies and to improve the capital market system, and serves on the Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee and the International Engagement Committee for the Business Roundtable. He also serves on the board of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, the Ravinia Festival Board of Trustees, the United States Council for International Business Board of Trustees and the Half the Sky Foundation Board, a charitable organization that works to improve conditions in Chinese orphanages. He is an active member of the Economic Club of Chicago and a member of the British-American Business Council.
