Blank Rome Welcomes New Partner in Princeton, Expanding Life Science Capabilities

PRINCETON, N.J. --(Business Wire)--

Blank Rome LLP is pleased to announce that Gary Ruckelshaus has joined the Firm as a partner in the Litigation Department. He brings more than 13 years of complex commercial litigation experience to the Firm, with an emphasis on life science and healthcare litigation. He is based in the Princeton, New Jersey office.

"Hatch-Waxman Paragraph IV litigation has increased significantly in New Jersey," said Alan J. Hoffman, Blank Rome Chairman and Managing Partner. "Gary's broad experience as a litigator and deep understanding of the generic pharmaceuticals industry will enhance our practice and enable us to leverage this trend and better serve clients in the life science and healthcare sectors. We are pleased to welcome him to the Firm."

Mr. Ruckelshaus has extensive experience counseling and representing companies involved in high-stakes, commercial disputes before the federal and state courts, and in the context of American Arbitration Association ("AAA") hearings. He has a diverse and well-rounded commercial litigation practice in which he regularly defends companies in federal and state court litigation, mediations, and arbitrations in aviation, products liability, mass tort, toxic tort, professional negligence or malpractice, construction, consumer fraud, and financial services. He represents several leading pharmaceutical and commercial manufacturers, among other companies.

"I was drawn to Blank Rome for the opportunity to further expand the Firm's life sciences practice with a special focus on Hatch-Waxman Paragraph IV litigation," said Mr. Ruckelshaus. "With the New Jersey District Court's adoption of local rules that apply to all patent cases, New Jersey has become a favorable venue for such cases. Generic pharmaceutical companies have been more active in developing products, and are also becoming more aggressive in identifying patents that are vulnerable to an invalidity position. We will see a significant uptick in litigation as branded companies seek to defend their brands. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build my practice in this regard at Blank Rome."

Prior to joining Blank Rome, Mr. Ruckelshaus was a partner who actively represented pharmaceutical companies at Reed Smith LLP. He developed substantive knowledge and experience in the industry ranging from clinical drug testing to the ANDA regulatory filing and approval process and the competitive market realities regarding a company's decision to pursue development of a specific product. He previously practiced law as an associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Mr. Ruckelshaus earned his J.D. from the Seton Hall University School of Law, and his B.A. from the University of Rhode Island. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association.
