Exelis (NYSE: XLS) will highlight its expanding presence in the global aviation marketplace at ATC Global 2014 in Beijing, China, Sept. 17-19, 2014.

  • Appointed regional aviation business leads: Exelis has appointed two, new regional aviation business directors for Asia Pacific and Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Axel Bensch joins Exelis bringing more than 25 years of Asia Pacific sales experience in senior roles with Thales Group, ERA a.s., Sabre (News - Alert) Holdings Corp., and Lufthansa Systems AG. Arie Herweijer joins Exelis with 30 years of aviation industry expertise in Europe, Middle East, and Africa and comes to Exelis following senior positions at Airbus Group, Metron Aviation, and HITT. Mr. Bensch and Mr. Herweijer join Fabrice Janssen and Holmes Liao on the Exelis Asia Pacific aviation sales team.
  • Acquired leading airport operations company, Barco Orthogon: Exelis recently acquired Orthogon, based in Bremen, Germany, from Barco NV. Orthogon provides applications for air traffic flow management and decision-making to airport operators and ANSPs globally. From widely-used queue management and traffic optimization applications to enabling more efficient aircraft flows into and out of airports, Orthogon's applications allow airport operators and airspace users to better utilize their resources. The acquisition of Orthogon expands the Exelis portfolio of aviation solutions and augments its offerings in the international market. Orthogon's products and solutions are used by customers to manage operations at some of the world's busiest airports including those in Doha, Qatar; Hong Kong; Istabul; London; and Singapore.
  • Established APAC HQ in Melbourne: Earlier this year, Exelis established its Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. The new facility expands research and development, testing, and systems integration capabilities for Exelis customers in the region. Exelis will support business pursuits globally with system deployments in more than 30 countries from its Asia Pacific headquarters.



At ATC Global 2014, Exelis will highlight the following capabilities at booth A724:

  • Global Surveillance Solutions: Exelis has deployed and is currently operating the ground infrastructure for the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) network for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Exelis is leading systems engineering and ground data distribution for Aireon, the global, space-based ADS-B solution.
  • Operations Management Solutions for Airports and Airlines: The Exelis Symphony® data and applications suite is a comprehensive, integrated airport and airline operations management platform that provides key business functions including operations, revenue, and environmental compliance management.
  • Networked ATC and Airport Communication Solutions: SwitchplusIP® provides critical voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) communications solutions for airports and air traffic control. SwitchplusIP enables air transportation operators to utilize existing network infrastructure and enables unparalleled scalability and flexibility through the seamless integration of radios, telephones, closed circuit television, alarm monitoring, facility controls, and public address systems. Exelis recently completed integration testing with Rohde and Schwarz's latest EUROCAE interoperability standards for VOIP air traffic management components (ED137). This extensive experience provides customers with a growing installation of proven end-to-end IP-based voice communications systems.
  • Arrival and Departure Management Solutions: Exelis Orthogon's OSYRIS provides an integrated suite of arrival, departure, and flow management software for queue management in today's crowded air traffic environment. OSYRIS Arrival Manager (AMAN) manages the flow of arriving aircraft to make best use of available runways and airspace. OSYRIS Departure Manager (DMAN) optimizes planning of outbound traffic at airports by maximizing runway capacity utilization.
