Volt Announces Five-Year Commitment to Veterans

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Volt Information Sciences, Inc. (VISI) announced today that they have made a five-year commitment to hiring 10,000 military veterans and spouses through Volt Workforce Solutions (Volt), its North American Staffing business unit and the Volt Military Heroes program. This commitment is being made in support of the Joining Forces initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden's national initiative to recognize, honor, and support military families and veterans. Volt Military Heroes made its first commitment to the First Lady's Office in 2013, vowing to hire 2,000 veterans. By the end of the year, the company had exceeded its goal, hiring 3,138 members of the armed forces, and leaders at Volt felt prepared to make a more significant long-term commitment to the initiative.

"We are pleased to note Volt's new commitment which supports our mission at Joining Forces to bring the men and women of the armed forces, and their spouses, into the workforce," said Colonel Rich Morales, Executive Director of Joining Forces.

Volt, one of largest staffing companies in the U.S., also offers career coaching to help veterans find employment in the private sector, allowing them to translate their exceptional military training and skill set to civilian careers. These training and resume resources will be provided at no cost to participants or federal and sate governments.

Volt's commitment to the military community dates back to 1950, when co-founder Jerry Shaw, who served in the US Navy in World War II, earned his bachelor's degree with the help of the GI Bill. "This is something we're very passionate about, and we want to do it for the right reasons - it's good business, but we also want to give back to those who have served our country," said Jerry Shaw.

"It's not just about hiring veterans," added Ron Kochman, Volt Information Sciences' CEO. "We want to make sure that members of the Guard and reserve, as well as military spouses, are prepared for the job market. We know that this sector of military community members may not have access to the same employment resources as veterans."
