Thompson Hine Grows Again in Washington; Hires Tenth Lateral

WASHINGTON --(Business Wire)--

Thompson Hine LLP is pleased to announce that Daniel Ferrel McInnis has joined the firm's Washington, D.C. office as a partner in the Business Litigation group. With almost two decades of experience in all facets of antitrust law, he handles all the major aspects of the practice, including civil litigation, cartel matters, mergers and acquisitions, and counseling. He previously practiced at Akin Gump LLP.

McInnis's antitrust practice focuses on civil litigation, government inquiries, Department of Justice (DOJ) grand jury criminal investigations and related class action lawsuits, as well as substantive agency reviews of mergers and acquisitions. His broad litigation experience includes dispositive motion practice, trial and appeal of complex civil matters, handling expert witnesses, managing all aspects of document discovery (including ESI (News - Alert)), and conducting depositions and investigational hearings.

Among his many accomplishments, McInnis acted as lead trial counsel for Penguin (USA), Inc. in the eBooks cases, which was recognized by Global Competition Review as the Behavioral Matter of the Year Americas (2013); represented Samsung (News - Alert) in a wide-ranging U.S. criminal investigation and its ultimate plea in the DRAM grand jury investigation; and played a key role in defending The Coca-Cola Company in PepsiCo, Inc. v. The Coca-Cola Company, one of the leading distribution restraint cases of the last decade.

McInnis also has represented clients in connection with antitrust investigations of mergers and acquisitions, including over 20 investigated deals, either through the Hart-Scott-Rodino process or post-deal investigations. He has counseled and represented clients on matters involving merger and acquisition investigations by the DOJ and Federal Trade Commission (FTC (News - Alert)) in diverse industries such as supermarket retailing, soft drinks, commodities, oil and gas, and advertising. In addition, he has significant experience in antitrust counseling and designing and implementing effective antitrust compliance programs.

"ThompsonHine's growing Washington office and antitrust practice were extremely attractive and the right fit for me," said McInnis of his decision to join the firm. "The firm's commitment to client service was also a major draw. Finally, there are a number of complementary service areas that will benefit my practice and clients, for example, the firm's robust transportation, corporate and manufacturing practices."

In addition to his antitrust work, McInnis also has extensive experience in handling consumer protection investigations and enforcement actions by the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection and state and local law enforcement officials, including the investigation of companies for deceptive or unfair acts or practices. He also represents clients in private litigation under state consumer protection statutes and the Lanham Act, and provides guidance on appropriate advertising and marketing practices.

"Dan is a great fit for the office and the firm. His extensive background in antitrust work further enhances our existing practice, which recently added Michael W. Jahnke, an antitrust lawyer whose practice focuses on M&A transactions, joint ventures and government investigations," said David A. Wilson, Washington office partner-in-charge. "As we continue to expand our Washington presence, his significant experience as a full-service antitrust lawyer will be a tremendous benefit to our clients. We couldn't be more pleased to welcome him to the firm."

These additions follow the arrivals of venerable trial lawyer Ugo A. Colella; highly respected construction litigators John T. Bergin and Lawrence M. Prosen; well-regarded intellectual property and IP litigation lawyers Clifton E. McCann, John W. Ryan and Thomas M. Haas; and the addition of the prominent transportation and international trade law team of Charles A. Hunnicutt, Brent Connor and Patricia N. Snyder.
