Games Bazaar reintroduces old school video gamesNov 16, 2012 (The Union-Recorder - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Milledgeville finally has a place to buy, trade and sell old video game systems. Games Bazaar welcomes vintage Sega Genesis or Sony Playstation consoles. Owner Will Moore graduated from Baldwin High School in 1994 before entering the U.S. Navy. He found his electronic niche. "I just wanted to travel. It was my plan to be a doctor, but I ended up in the electronic field," Moore said. After working at AT&T for 12 years, he started a computer franchise called Nerd We Can Fix That. The company troubleshoots any computer hardware or software need. "To me it was a natural progression to go from the computers to the video game industry," Moore said. "That's where I jumped." The computer repair company services are folded into Games Bazaar. The staff also fixes the older consoles. CDs and DVDs that are scratched and don't work get fixed less expensively at Games Bazaar also. Moore said he buys a good bit of vintage game systems to use as repair parts for customers. Retro Duo Game Systems that play Nintendo and Super Nintendo games are a hot item at the new store. Games Bazaar stocks movies as well. Many people enjoy gaming on the stuff out when they were young. Finding quality versions of vintage consoles and games is hit or miss. Having a Milledgeville location with experts helps. "I know a lot of people have the old games that graduated back when I did have to go online and hope that it works when it gets here. Games are cheaper from me, and I test all of them. They have somewhere local they can bring it back if it doesn't work," Moore said. Co-owner James Prather said it's easy to get lost inside bigger corporate stores. Stores like GameStop don't deal with Playstation 2 and older systems. With great prices and service, Games Bazaar just needs to get the word out. "I greet every person that comes in the door and explain how the store is laid out. I'd like to think that our personal service is better, and we are the only ones who carry the vintage games. In order for a business like this to survive, the service has to be a step up," Prather said. Moore said the trade in process is a lot different because the store isn't corporate. The new gaming business isn't afraid to work out a deal. Games Bazaar also stocks new titles and consoles. There is hardly any mark up on the new games, according to Moore. "People are going to come in here for the older games. A lot of people don't even know I have the new stuff also," Moore said. "We give more money back for trade-ins even for the new games. Everyone that has come in here said they are glad there is somewhere else now." Games Bazaar is located on 2485 N. Columbia St. #104.
