Village considering stop sign placement
GODFREY, Aug 09, 2012 (The Telegraph - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Stop signs have come up again at the latest Village Board meeting.
Trustees voted Tuesday night to have the village engineer find out whether and where the signage would work on the coming Lars Hoffman Crossing Phase 1A that will end at Rivers Edge subdivision. Specifically, the engineer will look at locations in the new road's northbound and southbound lanes at the entrance to Rivers Edge.
The residents of Rockgate Drive and Wedgewood Drive in Rockgate subdivision have requested stop signs, and the engineer also will study whether they are needed. A determination will come forth at the next Public Safety Committee meeting at Village Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 4, which is the same day as the next regular Village Board meeting, when trustees will discuss or vote on the determination.
"He'll find out how the signs will work if put in; they slow traffic down and indicate to watch out for children," Trustee Eldon "Twirp" Williams, who is chairman of the Public Safety Committee, said Wednesday.
Also at the Public Safety Committee meeting, factions from a group of residents of Doral Drive's cul-de-sac argued about where the village should approve and place "no parking" signs. One resident owns five vehicles and cannot park all of them in front of his house, while his neighbor does not want the vehicles in front of their house.
"I told them to go home and come back at the next Public Safety meeting," Williams said. "They're going to have to answer this themselves; they're having one heck of a squabble about it."
Because of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 3, the Public Safety and Finance Committee meetings will be held before the Godfrey Township and Village Board meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 4. The Public Safety Committee meeting starts at 5 p.m. at Village Hall.
