BRIEF: 21-year-old died in non-combat incident


May 07, 2011 (Houston Chronicle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed today that a Houston-area soldier died earlier this week in Afghanistan in a non-combat incident.

Spc. Riley S. Spaulding, 21, of Sheridan, died Wednesday in Kandahar province, according to a military release.

He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, Vilseck, Germany.

Spaulding graduated from Rice High School in 2007. Sheridan is about 70 miles west of Houston.




His body arrived at Dover Air Force Base on Thursday.
