China Mobile Unveils OPhone 2.5

BEIJING, Apr 22, 2011 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- China Mobile, one of the Big Three telecom operators in the country, unwrapped the latest version of its self-developed smartphone OPhone.

Borqs International Holding Corp., one of the partners of China Mobile in TD-SCDMA mobile phone operating system, announced the release of OPhone 2.5, a version that will beef up the function of TD-SCDMA mobile phones and enhance the sensibility of mobile phones.

Open Mobile System (OMS), a TD-SCDMA mobile phone operating system and application platform developed by China Mobile and its partners, powers OPhones.

The new version outshines almost all the smartphones available in the market, said Pat Chan, chief executive officer and president for Borqs International, noting that the version is not worse than any one of its likes in operating system and application platform.

OPhone emphasizes more on compatibility, compared with Android-based smartphones, according to Mr. Chan, adding that the OMS-powered OPhone aims to bring more applications within the reach of users although it derives from the Android operating system initiated by Google Inc. (Nasdaq: GOOG).

OPhone 2.5, compatible with all the Android-based applications and software, makes it possible for users to expand their software and applications on the Mobile MM and get tens of thousands of software and resources through the third-party market.

OPhone 2.5 strengthens the protection of software intelligent property (IP), part of the developers' efforts to shore up innovation of homegrown mobile applications. The version, featuring information secured storage protection, comes up with demand for information security from corporate users.

Applied with the most advanced Just-In-Time (JIT) technology, OPhone 2.5 runs at a speed two to five times faster than the previous version, cutting its reliance on the hardware, according to Mr. Chan, disclosing that the version will make more than 200,000 Android applications available for users.

Borqs International, set up in September 2007, is a high-tech company dedicated to the supply of end-to-end software solutions for the whole industrial chain of mobile communications. The company is engaged in the development and promotion of mobile operation platform and its application software.
